Uswah

All men are created equal.

O people! Your Lord is one, and your father is one. No Arab is above a non-Arab, nor a non-Arab above an Arab; no red above black, nor black above red, except by taqwa. The most honored of you with Allah is the most God-conscious. Have I conveyed the message? They said: Yes, Messenger of Allah. He said: Then let the present convey it to the absent.Translated by Uswah draft, awaiting review

The parallel

The Farewell Sermon, eleven centuries before 1776: one Lord, one father, no Arab over non-Arab, no colour over colour. Lineage has nothing left to stand on, because everyone's origin is the same.

How close it isVery close, and older, and wider. The declaration says men; the sermon opens with O people. And where one asserts equality as self-evident, the other gives it a ground, one Lord and one father, and keeps the one measure that still ranks anyone: taqwa.
